Undergraduate Application Instructions

 

 

I.  General Instructions                                              (Français)    (English)

 

1. The applicant should submit the following:

a.      Four recent passport-size photographs.

b.     A recent (not older than 6 months) certified Identity Card إخراج قيد فردي)) and a certified Family Record (إخراج قيد عائلي) for Lebanese applicants.
A photocopy of passport (relevant pages) for Non-Lebanese applicants.

c.      Certified school records for the last 2 years (in English or Arabic).

d.     Certified copy of the official Baccalaureate part II (if applicable).

e.      Certified copies of certificates or diplomas from the Lebanese Ministry of Education.

f.       Sealed official transcript from your University or college (if applicable).

g.      Scores of International TOEFL and other entrance exams (if applicable).

h.     A non-refundable application Fee of $25 or the equivalent in other currencies.

i.        A non-refundable application Fee of $25 for the English Entrance Exam (if required).

j.       A non-refundable application Fee of $25 for the Math I or Math II Entrance Exam (if required).

2. Original official certificates are to be presented along with photocopies. Only certified photocopies of transcripts may be substituted for the originals.

3. Transfer applicants: Transfer applicants from recognized Institutions of Higher Learning may be given transfer credits for courses completed with a minimum grade of “C” (70%) and provided that the courses completed are equivalent to the courses taught at AUST. Students must submit an official transcript of record and a catalog from the college or university attended.

4. Applicants are requested to apply to one American University of Science & Technology campus only. However, transfer of applications from one campus to another is possible if the application is submitted within the deadline set by the campus.

5. Applications must be accompanied by all relevant documents.
Incomplete applications will not be considered by the Admissions Committee.

6. Decisions relative to admission will be made by the Admissions Committee in accordance with academic qualifications and available places.

7. The decisions of the Admissions Committee will be e-mailed to all applicants.

8. Admission is valid for one calendar year only.

9. Advanced Placement Examinations: Freshman credits may be given for high grades on Advanced Placement Examinations of the College Board with the approval of the academic department concerned.

 

II.  Entrance Examinations

 

1. The English Language Proficiency Requirements:
All applicants must pass either the American University of Science & Technology English Entrance Examination (EEE) with a minimum score of 540, or the International TOEFL with a minimum score of 550.

2. Math Placement Test:
The Math Placement test is required from all applicants except those applying to major in Translation or English Studies. The Math I Placement test is required from candidates following the Arts and Business majors and from applicants to Clinical Laboratory Science, Optics and Optometry and Information and Communications Technology. The Math II Placement test is required from candidates following the Computer Science and Computer & Communications Engineering majors.

IV.  Certificates and the Classes and Majors to which they admit

 

¨ Admitting Certificates to Freshman Level

 

Non-Lebanese Applicants

 

·    Hold a secondary school certificate recognized by the Lebanese Ministry of Education.

 

·    Submit the required SAT I Reasoning Tests and the SAT II Subject Tests with a minimum total score of 2600 in the 6 compon­ents (of the SAT I & SAT II tests) for admission to freshman arts and 2750 for admission to freshman science.

 

Lebanese Applicants

 

·    Hold a secondary school certificate recognized by the Lebanese Ministry of Education.

 

·    Obtain permission from the Equivalence Committee of the Lebanese Ministry of Education allowing them to pursue their education on the bases of a foreign program:

Note: A minimum total score of 2600 is required for the combined SAT I reasoning tests & SAT II subject tests for applicants to freshman Arts and a minimum total score of 2750 for the combined SAT I reasoning tests & SAT II subject tests for applicants to freshman Science.

 

Requirements for equating the freshman year with the Lebanese Government Secondary Certificate (Previously the Lebanese Bacc.II):

1.      Receive a recognized Secondary School Certificate based on 12 years of Schooling counting from elementary Grade I.

2.      Receive Permission from the Lebanese Equivalence Committee to follow a non – Lebanese Bacc. II Program. To obtain this permission an applicant will need evidence of having lived and studied outside Lebanon for not less than 2 years of the Secondary level or not less than three years of the elementary and / or intermediate level.

3.      Sit for the SAT I & II tests and obtain a total score of 2600 and 2750 in the six components for candidates who are following the Arts or Science programs respectively.

4.      Complete the freshman class with a minimum of 30 credit hours to include 9 credits of humanities and Social Sciences with no less than 3 credits in each, and 3 credits from Natural Sciences and 3 credits of Mathematics.

 

Gulf Category

Non Lebanese applicants who complete their secondary education in an Arab country and receive the government secondary certificate may be classified as sophomores upon admission but will be required to complete a minimum of 120 credit hours in order to have their degrees received from AUST, recognized by their Governments.

* Students holding the official Lebanese or French Bacc II in Literature and Humanities or Sociology and Economics can apply to the Departments of Computer and Communications Engineering, Computer Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Optics and Optometry and Information and Communications Technology but acceptance is based on their result on the Math Placement Test.

 

* Such students are required to take and complete successfully a minimum of 9 credits of freshman level natural sciences from Biology, chemistry or physics before they may join the program on a regular basis.

 

* To qualify for admission to the CLS major a candidate should have passed the Lebanese Bacc. II Life Sciences or its recognized equivalent. Candidates who have passed the Lebanese Bacc. II in a different stream must take Introduction to Biology (BIO 200, 3 cr.) and Introduction to Chemistry (CHE 200, 3 cr.).

Defining the streams of the Technical Baccalaureate for joining Various Higher Education Institutions

 

The Minister of Education and Higher Education

 

Pursuant to decree no. 4336 dated 26/10/2000 (regarding cabinet formation),

Pursuant to decree no. 7880 dated 25/7/1967 (regarding the organization of the fields, stages, and degree of vocational and technical education) and its amendments,

Pursuant to decree no. 1936 dated 8/6/1965 and in particular Article 1 thereof which stipulates:

"The technical baccalaureate degree established pursuant to decree no. 9404 dated 2/5/1962 shall be considered a decree allowing its holder to join higher education institute to pursue his or her major,"

Pursuant to decree no. 40/99 dated 5/7/1999 (regarding the adoption and implementation of new curricula in some majors of the technical baccalaureate and Technique Superieure.

Since for the purpose of achieving equilibrium between general academic education and vocational and technical education, as well as suitability and integration between education on the one hand, and the needs of both society and the labor market on the other, implementation is required of the new structure of vocational and technical education, which structure was approved of by the Educational Center for Research and Development on August 8, 2000, by the Council of Ministers on August 16, 2000 and by the Higher Council for Vocational and Technical Education on August 21,2001;

Whereas the new pre-university curricula in Secondary and technical education have adopted equilibrium, suitability and integration;

Pursuant to the proposal of the Director General vocational and Technical Education,

 

Decides the following:

 

Article 1:

The streams of the technical baccalaureate degrees, issued by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education The Directorate General of vocational and Technical Education to join the various higher education institutions shall be defined according to the chart herewith attached.

 

 

Article 2:

Pursuing studies in higher education institutions shall remain subject to special terms and conditions laid down by saidinstitutions, as well as to private law provisions monitoring the practice of the profession and the mandatory membership in unions.

 

 

Article 3:

All prior resolutions that contradict the content of this resolution shall be annulled.

 

 

Article 4:

This resolution shall be published and announced in the Official Gazette.

 

VI.  Chart Defining the Academic Major that the Holder of a BT3 may follow at AUST

 

A Pursuant to resolution #20/2008 dated 22/1/200 issued by the Lebanese Minister of Higher Education and starting October 2008, all students who have successfully completed the BT3 official degree shall be allowed to join the academic majors offered at AUST and specified in the following chart:
